Class 2K has been very busy these first few weeks of school, and we're rockin' and rollin' in our daily routines and procedures! We learned how people are like apples in an "Apples and Actions" activity. We learned that like apples, our feelings can become bruised and hurt. We compared our green and red apples using a Venn Diagram, then sorted examples of kind, unkind actions. We also began our Social Studies unit on maps and created a classroom map to scale! The 2K class is so excited continue learning and growing this year.

Our book boxes are finally in!
Can't wait to fill these with "good fit" books! We've built our reading stamina, I've begun my individual assessments and we've practiced and learned about all 5 "Daily 5" aspects. What's the "Daily 5"? Researchers studied and followed a large group of children and discovered that children who participated in these five activities (Read to Self, Read to Someone, Listen to Reading, Word Work, and Work on Writing) DAILY became better students academically overall, and developed a love for reading and writing. What could be better?!

Welcome back
We came back from Spring Break and got right back into some FUN math! Thanks to Mrs.Yonce who supplied our jellybeans-that helped me out so much! We graphed, we added and subtracted, we used our data to answer questions, and we even wrote our own word problems!

Penguins penguins everywhere!
2k has been studying penguins; each student chose a penguin to research and write a report on, then illustrate their report. After completing the science unit (wherein the students learned about different penguins and their habitats) the class created life size penguins for a comparison to a second grader, and various species of penguins.

Rainy day recess
As an advocate of healthy bodies, we do not play board games during rainy day recess, we MOVE! Running, dancing, yoga you name we do it! It's a great way to keep our hearts healthy and get some energy out. I use a great site called "GoNoodle" the kids love it and it has many different kid friendly activities for us to choose from.
Geometry skills
After hearing the legend of the tangram, the students made their own tangrams! Here are some pictures of more Geometry fun...."What's my shape?" Game and tangram puzzles

Magnet science
We have begun a new unit in Science....MAGNET EXPLORATION! First, we needed to learn about the different poles (north and south) of a magnet and the terms attract and repel. To help the students understand this, we played a game of magnet tag wherein they had to find a matching pole (north-south) and stand back to back to be safe. They had a blast!
