  Great Day today!  It was 12-12-12, and thanks to a great blog post I saw from another blogging teacher-we created a 12-12-12 Memories book filled with word work!  Everyone had a great time, and all contributed to our big class book of 12-12-12.  A few were so excited that they didn't get all there pages filled out, so please encourage your child to do so tonight along with our regular nightly homework.

Monday is Veteran's Day-each year my class creates a book of thank you letters to veterans; the books will be mailed to the VA hospital and any of the class' family members who are veterans.  If you have a family member who is a veteran, please send their name and COMPLETE ADDRESS to school Monday.

Settling In

Finally!  It seems as though we are all settling into our 2nd grade routines and responsibilities.  We've begun our Phonics Dance & I really think it's going to be a great asset for the children!

Great Friday

Wow!  What a great day!  We finished our map of ourselves, picture and writing!  This group is certainly talented in the writing field.  I am really looking forward to some great projects with them.

Weekend Work

If your child came home with some "weekend" homework-it was classwork that he/she did not finish.  Even though everyone was really starting to get into the routine last week, there were still a handful that needed to take unfinished work home for homework.  Please know that this is review work and gone over throughout the week.  Students are given time at the end of the day on Fridays to meet with me and go over their work, they also will have an opportunity during our small group meetings as well.  After the shock of "I have homework this weekend" I think those who had to take work home will definitely be back on track this coming week, and have a better understanding of what their responsibilities in the classroom are.

First week back!

We finished our first full week back and are rockin' on!  Everyone finished their acrostic poems and we are slowly but surely learning the classroom routines.  Looking forward to a great week next week and a super Labor Day weekend for all.

Last Day Blues

Well....."Schools out for SUMMER!!" Even so, I am such a dork that I'm a little bummed.  As you near the last few weeks of the school year, your thoughts switch to the new school year.  It's only natural, how and what you'd do differently next year, what you'll do the same that worked well this year, finding new ideas, etc.  By the time you actually shut your room down you've gained so much momentum finishing up file  folder games, or organizational things that you've played with all year-you're bummed its over!  At least I am and this is my theory.  hahahah
  This year my class was full of children that had enormous hearts. So loving and so thoughtful I really will miss this group-time went to fast this year.  One of my students, first thing this morning says "This is the saddest day of the year-the last day of school"  so sweet.
  Of course I will be swinging by this weekend to knock out some covering of bookshelves, etc and finish putting everything away.  My students cleaned their desk inside and out for me (gotta love shaving cream!) I also had a few super duper cleaners help me clean off the shelves (seriously-someone taught these kids some serious cleaning skills!) One boy was explaining to one of my girls how to be sure and wipe the sides and back of the shelves!  So cute, so helpful.  Will miss them all, but can't wait to see them go through school excelling all the way!  :)  They were truly some rockin' stars!

Daily News

Today our class participated in the Scholastic live webcast-WordGirl Vocabulary Competition!  It was so fun and everyone did a great job.  Don't forget First Communion practice tomorrow and Thursday @ 5:30pm.  Also, our Mother's Day Tea invitations went home in our ROYALS as well as our Gates Testing results.

Bazaar

Hope to see everyone at the Bazaar today-I know it's crazy right now and everyone has different sports activities and what not to attend as well, but it's all for a good cause.  Special thanks to all those parents who helped Kelly out and signed up to man our booth.  The donation of your time and help is greatly appreciated :)

Super Monday!

We went on-and I quote (several students) "THE BEST FIELD TRIP EVER!"  Barrier Island EcoTours did an excellent job, everyone had a blast, learned a lot, and took home memories to last a lifetime.  I'll try to post our pics and videos tonight.  We also got numerous complements from Ms. Courtney (EcoTours) on our students' behavior and intelligence!  Hence the no homework last night.
Tomorrow we will have living stations @ 1:30pm  parents are welcomed to come.

Important Field Trip Note

2k and 2D Field Trip

            Monday, April 2^nd 2K and 2D will be taking a Barrier Island EcoTour.  The bus will leave @ 9:00am sharp.  We will have the opportunity to learn about organisms, habitats, communities, and ecosystems as we explore the tidal creeks of the salt marsh on the way to Capers Island.  We will have a hotdog/hamburger lunch with water, chips and a cookie (there is no need to bring any extra.)  You may bring a bottle of water if you wish.

            The following are some important guidelines:

·        Wear PE uniforms. *If chance of rain bring rain coats or umbrellas

·        Wear tennis shoes that you don’t mind getting a little wet or sandy (no flip flops or crocs).

·        Apply sunscreen BEFORE arriving at school

·        Remember that the temperature is usually cooler on the water, you may want to bring your BSS sweatshirt

·        If you wish to bring a disposable camera-LABEL IT WITH YOUR CHILD’S NAME, your child will be responsible for it.

Awesome Report Cards!

Report Cards went home today and I'm so proud of each and every one of my students!  Everyone has worked so hard lately and their grades show it.  :)  I am going to have to think of something to do for them by Monday.  :)
