The students have learned:
- the basic concepts of economics
- the way businesses in our community meet the needs and wants of consumers (mainly our awesome port and railways and how they help distribute consumer goods)
- that people all over the world trade goods and services
- the concept of supply and demand
- money can be saved, spent, borrowed, and given away
- experience how producers and consumers work together in the making and using of goods and services
- working together as a team/company
- persuasive writing & advertising (advertisement headings, catch phrases, main facts audience/reader needs)
What a wonderful way for our second graders to use concepts and standards learned in a higher order of intellectual thinking. With their critical thinking skills put to work, they "opened" their businesses and went shopping. Afterwards, they reflected on the lessons learned (mistakes made, achievements made, and made a plan for tomorrow's Market Day) Check out some of our pics below:
