2014-2015 Class

So far we are off to a great start this year! As if we're not every year, but seriously, this class has already shown great responsibility!  We received our Daily Math Folders today and even used our "Number of the Day Page".  It is a daily page we use every day that helps the students' number concepts as well as time, computations, AND geometry.  Oh, the also helps them with number patterns and problem solving.  Obviously it's an important page.  We are also dissecting sentence and writing some truly spectacular sentences too!  I'm so excited about a great year of learning and growing  INDEPENDENT ("I can do it myself") learners.  Don't forget Open House is September 2nd!  See you then!

More Cursive Writing Intros

Here are two more cursive writing intro videos.  The first one is pencil and the strokes are not as clear or easy to see, so the second is with a blue marker which is much more visible.

VIRAL: UNA Lion greets WAFF's Marie Waxel

VIRAL: UNA Lion greets WAFF's Marie Waxel
"Hi, Marie. Whatcha doing?" Watch as one of UNA's live mascots surprises Marie Waxel WAFF 48 News during taping of a story about how the cold temps are affecting the big cats. Her story's coming up this afternoon on WAFF 48 News Now; in the meantime, join us in a good-natured laugh at this funny moment

Leo and Una North Alabama's lions, Una heard the reporter talking about her I guess.  Posting the video because the class the first week of school loved a book I shared about Leo and Una (wondering if they recall the story or the characters-if so they'll love catching a glimpse of the real-life versions).

Changes in Matter Experiement

Before our Christmas Holiday, the class learned about matter and the different states of matter.  We did some interactive experiments on the SMARTboard, then a hands on experiment in the classroom.
First students labeled our diagram so the student  knew which "tree" was theirs.

Students add their SOLID colors to the mold.

Students were able (WITH TEACHER SUPERVISION) take a peek at how their SOLIDS changed to LIQUID when heated.  Students were also able to see the LIQUID turn solid again when cooled and were able to take their experiment result home with them!

* Of course before heated a warning sign  was made- in keeping with our SAFETY FIRST in SCIENCE motto.

Polish Christmas Traditions

Thanks to Kasha's mom for sharing some Polish Christmas traditions-the class really enjoyed this!
